National Skills Academies
The White Paper Skills: Getting on in business, getting on at work set out proposals for a new network of National Skills Academies. The foreward to the White paper states that Skills Academies will be at the apex of the skills systems. They will be employer-led, forming a strong network of in each sector linking Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) with universities, training providers and specialist schools. The aim is to establish 12 NSAs by 2007/08 and overtime to support one in every major sector.
National Skills Academies will provide employers with a much stronger voice shaping the supply of the supply of vocational education and training at every level, nationally, regionally and locally and in each sector where there is demand. They will help transform the quality and status of vocational education and training. Each NSA will develop a 'national reach' enabling them to play a role in raising standards across the system by fostering innovation, spreading good practice, shaping the curriculum, and improving the professional development of teachers, lecturers and trainers.
